We at Vege King are a purpose driven food processing company with an aim to introduce healthier plant-based protein rich meat alternatives in the market. Our products are soya by-product-based plant-based meat alternatives and our current product line up includes vegetarian chicken, vegetarian fish, vegetarian mutton and vegetarian liver. In India, we are one of the very few manufacturers of plant-based meat alternatives with our own production facility based in a Tier II city (Erode) in Tamil Nadu. Our products cater to the taste buds of both vegetarians and non-vegetarians and through our protein rich products we offer 18 grams of protein for every 100 grams. Six years into the business, currently, our primary customers include hotels, restaurants and catering (HoReCa) segment with a plan to reach to the retail consumer segment in the near term (1 – 2 years). Our business is primarily financed by reinvesting profits complemented by debt financing for infrastructure development. With an aim to foster local economic development and promote women empowerment, in our manufacturing facility, 100% of the employees are women from the local community. As a niche product in the FMCG segment, our primary set of challenges are currently two-fold - scale up and sustainability. This entails expanding our product line up, scaling up the business beyond local markets in South India and integrating sustainability practices early on in infrastructure development to improve operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
