Drones offer many potential benefits to farmers and the agriculture industry. Drones, by capturing a wealth of information about crops have the potential to revolutionize the way farmers manage their crops, and help to increase yields and reduce costs. The ability of drones to carry a payload, move around in swift motions and manoeuvrable to the destined locations, is making them an increasingly popular choice for farmers when it comes to input application on their crops. Similarly, drones can help government keep track of the production levels to make informed decisions regarding food security, trade, and export policies. Drones can monitor land use patterns, soil health, pests, diseases, and other externalities, which can help governments to identify and mitigate risks that may affect agricultural production. However, agricultural monitoring using drones is a complex and multidimensional endeavour which requires diverse expertise in agriculture, remote sensing, mathematical modelling, and data analysis. Therefore, successful implementation of drone technology for agriculture requires a team with a diverse range of skills and expertise to ensure that the drone technology is used to its full potential, and that the data collected is accurate, reliable, and useful for decision-making. Considering the numerous challenges in implementing drone technologies in the agriculture sector, the association of Viation Sciences is committed to revolutionize precision agriculture through innovative solutions. The collaborative’s approach is rooted in five principles: • Bring together the collective knowledge, expertise, and resources to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions in agriculture • To integrate competencies to co-create new technologies that improves production potential of farmers • To work with governments and develop mission/task specific drones for the government & wider public use. • Pilot & design broader offerings using drones for provision of various ‘Digital Extension’ services • Collaboration with various research organizations to enhance efficiency, equity, and sustainability in Indian agriculture
