In their own words
Neonatal sepsis is the third leading cause of neonatal mortality in developing countries. The emergence of antimicrobial resistance by Staphylococcus aureus, threatens successful treatment and has raised concerns about overuse of antibiotics. But current detection methods rely on blood cultures that require 24-48 hour incubation periods before sepsis can be confirmed.Surface proteins of gram positive and gram negative bacteria plays an important role in host pathogenesis. We have developed a proof of concept using dot blot assay based on novel monoclonal antibody against surface protein of S. aureus that possess high affinity for binding with intact protein on the surface through complementarity determining region. based on this POC, we are in the process of developing Lateral flow assay kit for neonatal diagnosis.
