Title: “Development of Tool for early Identification and Management of Pests and Diseases of Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.)” fruit crop. Importance of the Project: Pomegranate is one of the commercially important fruit crop of India and grown in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. The total area under cultivation of pomegranate in India is 262 thousand ha and production is around 3034 thousand metric tons. Maharashtra is the leading producer of pomegranate followed by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Pomegranate is commercially cultivated in Solapur, Sangli, Nasik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Dhule, Aurangabad, Satara, Osmanabad and Latur districts of Maharashtra. In recent years, there is decline in production of pomegranate in Maharashtra due to the infestation of different pests and diseases due to several reasons. Dynamical environmental conditions end up in generation of microorganism, plant life and viruses on leaves and fruits. The key diseases occurring on pomegranate are Bacterial Blight, Fruit Spot, Fruit Rot and Leaf Spots and wilt diseases. Bacterial blight is the most evident illness damaging the pomegranate crop small to larger proportion, thereby inflicting major losses in production. To prevent diseases farmers spray large quantity of pesticides that end in increasing the price of production. Most of the currently followed practices for fruit disease detection system in India are naked eye observation by domain experts. The consultation charges of professional experts are high and it is also not possible to get it on time at remote location. The diseases are known solely after the infection, however its takes up lots of time and have adverse effects. In the current scenario Indian farmers lack information regarding the utilization of pesticides, hence precision agriculture helps farmers with management of crops. There is a strong need for early identification and management of the pests and diseases using technology an intelligent decision system for effectively applying the management strategy for control. This will lead towards the enhancement in production and minimizing uses of chemicals for pomegranate crop. Hence, we propose to jointly develop Artificial Intelligence based system which will be used to identify the pests and diseases of pomegranate and subsequently advice corresponding management strategy. Objectives  To Monitoring/collection of images RGB, multi/hyperspectral of important pests and diseases of pomegranate and develop the library of images.  To develop a Machine Learning Model for identification of pests and diseases.  Experimental analysis and produce results of the developed model.  To develop suitable user-friendly tool such as web application, mobile application, etc.  To develop a decision support system as an advisory tool for management of pests and diseases  To pilot the tool for feedback and comments Expected Output Input Feed to system is data collected from all sensors. The system will contain a machine learning algorithm trained on existing data. The machine should process the input data with the assistance of machine learning algorithm and turn out the output/result. The likelihood that the generated result's correct ought to be over 90%. Then the result alert should be sent to farmers for making them aware of the disease.
