Curium Life is a Deeptech startup working with IIT Madras to solve problems in the area of Surgery. Working in two areas of surgery - Ventral Hernia & Gallbladder surgery. These two surgeries constitute just over 20% of all GI surgeries. One of the key problems in Ventral Hernia is both incidence (20%) and recurrence(30%) are increasing, Incidence: Increasing number of abdominal-related surgeries are causing this. Recurrence: Adoption of wrong surgery techniques during repair is the key cause. Size of the problem: In US alone around half a million ventral hernia surgery happen annually and over 3m abdominal surgeries are conducted. In India the Incidence is double of that. Due to lack of registries in India it is hard to quantify. Our solution: A decision support system for surgeons that helps to diagnose various Hernia characteristics using a CT scan combined with a multitude of factors that would aid them in the type of surgical technique that can be adopted to lower recurrence and reduce patient morbidity. Current status Hernia: Developed a model to identify the Hernia – Anomaly detection and also Anatomy detection and Prostheis detection. Developing a POC to demonstrate in the upcoming AHS conference in Sept and EHS conference in Oct.
