INDLYO - BIO TEXTILE & FABRICATION HOUSE LLP
Chennai, Tamil Nadu
In their own words
This project seeks to explore and develop a new model for sustainable Lyocell fibre production using bamboo as a primary raw material. Our research is focused on integrating enzyme-assisted processing techniques with a closed-loop, zero-effluent system—an area with significant potential to reduce the environmental footprint of fibre manufacturing. We aim to investigate the use of biological catalysts (such as cellulases, xylanases, and laccases) to replace traditional chemical treatments, while designing a process capable of high solvent recovery and full water recycling. As part of the R&D , we also intend to assess the suitability of bamboo as a regenerative feedstock—examining its compatibility with enzymatic pulping, its potential for carbon sequestration, and its role in climate-resilient agriculture. The project aligns with national sustainability goals, including the National Bamboo Mission, and addresses global market demand for low-impact, traceable fibres. At this stage, our goal is to build foundational knowledge, validate technical feasibility at pilot scale, and lay the groundwork for future commercialization and scale-up.
