Today IoT is not just a buzz word, but the future of the connected world. Today's connected world is made up of IoT nodes in the fields of wearables, medicine, and health care, agriculture, communication, home automation, manufacturing, environmental monitoring, infrastructure management, waste management, transportation… et al. Once the remote IoT nodes are connected to the remote-station cloud, the next major challenge is powering the IoT nodes. Since it is not feasible to physically connect all the IoT nodes to the grid, ubiquity is thus one of the keywords implying that the objects will be able to provide themselves the energy they need to operate. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop cost-effective low power and ultra-low power self-powering solution for the IoT nodes. The main objective is to design the concept and develop the prototype of a Self-sustaining IOT chipset for next-generation IoT nodes. More specifically, (a) Design an efficient hybrid environmental energy harvesting (solar, thermal, vibration and RF) power management interface for self-sustainability (b) Design an efficient power-aware reconfigurable wireless receiver architecture for the proposed chip-set adaptive to energy harvesting. This solution will address (a) Minimization of the power consumption, extending the shelf life of the IoT nodes (b) Scalability and affordability of the remote monitoring system (c) Maintenance and inter-operability (d) Innovating novel concepts of self-sustainable chip-set designs. Therefore, our aim emphasis is to develop a Self-sustaining IOT chipset for next-generation IoT node.
