FOUNDERS We are a group of three founders; all have been schoolmates and have known each other for over 30 years. Dr Shibu Varkey is an Ophthalmic surgeon, Vikas Vig is the finance expert, and I am a technologist. PROBLEM Lack of neighborhood facilities for early diagnosis and access to affordable healthcare, are two of the biggest problems that impact our Country. These are compounded due to the lack of awareness and fear of expenses. 70% of patients pay out of pocket, more so for Out Patient expenses. On the other hand, the Ophthalmologists are stretched for time - there are about 20,000 of them for a Country of 1.3 billion people. Likewise, the diagnostic centers, & test labs are required to make substantial capital investments to buy these cameras (some retinal/fundus cameras can cost US $15,000 and upwards) as they look to expand their footprint; esp. semi-urban. There is a need for early identification of persons with diabetes and their routine screening for Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). We realized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would be the enabler to proactively identify biomarkers that can be used to diagnose DR and many other diseases that can be identified by analyzing retinal images. these include Glaucoma, Macular degeneration, cardiovascular diseases (even the ability to read biomarkers that will predict heart attack at a future point in time) and high blood pressure. SOLUTION Our front end application enables every Indian Citizen to seamlessly create their ABHA ID and be an integral part of the digital health infrastructure. To further alleviate the problems discussed above, we are offering the hardware (for retinal scans) and AI software (for diagnosing diabetic retinopathy) technology as a SaaS model in as many locations as possible with a focus on Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This will free up capital for hospitals, diagnostic centers and also not create any overhead for the technicians. Our AI solution will provide cost effective and efficient access to diagnosis using technology. Any technician, chemist, optometrist will be able to use our solution if given a training for about thirty minutes. Hence, it will function as a substitute for an ophthalmologist (where they are not available) to interpret the images. In addition, it will also free up valuable time for the Ophthalmologists at the eye hospitals. Our front end application will also enable fintech solutions including insurance, buy no - pay later, OPD coverage.
