In their own words
Every web search, every email/message sent or received, and every status update on Whatsapp translates into the consumption of electricity and therefore the emission of greenhouse gases. The number of devices connected to IP networks will be more than three times the global population by 2023. There will be 3.6 networked devices per capita by 2023, up from 2.4 networked devices per capita in 2018. There will be 29.3 billion networked devices by 2023, up from 18.4 billion in 2018. With more and more digitization of our common chores, it is necessary to think about the notable climate cost of digital assets. In the human history, we are at a very critical time to ignore even the tiniest catalyst of climate change. Scientists have warned about climate change more than 100 years ago. But the awareness was almost non-existant. And we are actually seeing the irrefutable evidences of the greenhouse effect as presented in the IPCC report. (IPCC, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, is the UN body for assessing the science related to climate change.) It has been deemed as "code red for humanity", an absolute wake up call, that we can not afford to delay any further and must take every step we can to minimize the heating of the planet. We can not show reluctance to take action again. Digitization is the future and we need to build that future on green foundations. We need a way to quantify the effects of digital assets on climate change. A carbon rating to make better informed decision and policymaking to curb the greenhouse effect, and be in the 1.5 degree threshold. A cloud host plays critical part in carbon footprint of digital asset. A host that uses renewable energy sources should be preferred choice for digital asset owners. There is a need to have a rating for cloud hosts, based on how they source their energy requirements. And how much effort they put to mitigate carbon footprint. We are creating a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) calculator that assesses and give you a quantifiable estimate of how much CO2e (Carbon Dioxide equivalents) produced by your website. The calculator uses data about data centers/hosts that are sourcing their energy using renewable energy sources or not. It also provides suggestions to improve your carbon footprint. This service will analyze and quantify the resources used by digital assets (e.g. websites, web-portals, web hosting), which shall act as a guide to determine the carbon footprint generated by them. This rating service will also better enable businesses to optimize the company equipment to minimize carbon footprint. To run Social/digital media, audio visual campaigns to create awareness of effects of digital assets on climate and ways to improve/minimize carbon footprint.
