Greetings for the day! I am Aakriti Jain, director of Atul Suspension & Fastners Pvt. Ltd. (micro-industry). I have been working in the Automotive industry for the past six years. Our major client is Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd. we have also worked for Ashok Leyland and MAN Trucks & Buses. In this project, I am working with my husband Dr. Atul Kala who is a Maxillofacial Surgeon and specializes in head, neck, and intraoral surgeries. He also has a lot of experience in oral malignancy surgeries. In the past six years, with whatever experience that we have gathered in our respected fields, we have understood about some problems being faced by the drivers and co-drivers of commercial vehicles. The problems are as follows : • Long working hours (more than 10hrs a day) • Addiction to various types of tobacco to keep themselves active. • Consumption of smokeless tobacco averaging up to 10 times a day. • Immense urge to spit due to excessive saliva formation. • Swallowing the spit when they are restricted and do not get a proper place to spit. • This is one of the prominent causes of esophageal(throat) cancer and gastric ulcers. • Not to mention, the risk of infections due to spitting in public places/ roads. • This is one of the primary causes of the spreading of CORONAVIRUS. The Solution : Around 70% of the country’s commercial drivers and conductors are engaged in the consumption of Smokeless Tobacco. This creates a lot of nuisance on the roads and public places. Therefore we, at Atul Suspensions & Fastners Pvt. Ltd. have created products named Eco-Spit System (patent applied) and Bio Spittoon and the Spit Cup under the project PEHEL. • The Eco-Spit System can be easily installed in the driver’s cabin in heavy commercial vehicles. • The Bio Spittoon can be installed in office spaces, workplaces, or any public place with large footfall. • The Spit Cup is a completely spill proof and portable cup which can be used by anyone who needs to spit. • Both the Bio Spittoon and Eco-spit System works on a similar principle as that of bio-toilets. • The effluent coming out of the Bio Spittoon and Eco-spit System will be clean water in both systems • The Eco-spit system is going to be detachable and portable so that it can be used personally. • Also, we plan to initiate a de-addiction drive among the driver and co-driver with the help of this concept. The Vision : Since 2014 our Honorable Prime Minister has dreamed of a Swachh Bharat. After making our country Open Defecation Free its time that we come up with the vision of making our country Open Spit-Free. Today, because of the spread of Coronavirus it has become more important to take this step forward. We can say that this pandemic is come as a blessing in disguise to make our country Spit-Free. Also, as our honorable health minister is elected as the Chairman for the executive council of WHO, now will be the best time to initiate this drive and present India as the trendsetter in this new normal world. Our Progress : With this vision of making our country Spit-Free, we tried to approach the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU). We had a one-hour virtual meeting with the Director Technical, Mr. Krishna Kumar, and his team where we showed them the working prototype and discussed the larger scope of the product. I am delighted to say that they really liked the product and have recommended all the member State Road Transport Units to use the product, especially in this pandemic. I am attaching the recommendation letter for your reference. Since we have successfully developed a working prototype, we are now in the stage of commercializing the products.
