Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is an IoT (internet of things) Device which can measure blood glucose levels every 5 minutes without a need for repeated finger prick. It is inserted into the skin of the arm like a small needle and stays there for 10-14 days and keeps measuring glucose level from interstitial fluid. There is transmitter over the skin which collects the sugar levels and transmits it to a Bluetooth enabled device which is a smart phone and the app in the smart phone displays the glucose level What does CGM measure? CGM is an IOT for people with DIABETES. It measures glucose levels 24 hours a day when wearing the device. Why do people with diabetes need to track blood sugar levels ? Blood glucose levels tells you how much insulin your body needs and when. Blood sugar levels that go up and down a lot can damage your body in different ways. Very high (hyperglycemia) or low (hypoglycemia) blood sugar levels can be serious, and even life-threatening when not treated quickly. Many things (like the foods you eat, sports you play and your lifestyle) can affect your blood sugar levels. But diabetes affects everyone differently. How a food or activity affects one person’s glucose levels is often different from how that same thing affects someone else. All these can be predicted and reduced when you can get continuous glucose levels without the painful finger pricks.
