Enhancing & Simplifying Energy Delivery Sleepwalkers, founded in November 2016 by 3 budding engineers, has only one aim from its inception – sustain-ably increasing the power transmission capacity to meet demands. With years of experience in power transmission sector, we want to increase the power transmission capacity of existing lines through green technology for a low carbon world. Having said this, a question pops up in every mind, how green technology is even possible in energy delivery, as energy generation is the prominent sector in this regard. But we have a justifiable answer to this question. We are consistently working towards a sustainable solution to maximize the utilization of existing transmission assets to serve growing demand while reducing emissions. And that too, without reconductoring the existing power transmission line or building a new transmission corridor. We are working on a smart grid solution, by building a system that will provide reliable real time and forecasted line capacity ratings based on actual measured data, not estimates and based on learning, not static models. It will be a simple, fast and reliable solution for increasing the ampacity of the existing lines based on the actual line and ambient conditions. The systems will comprise of a temperature monitor for temperature measurement of the line, a sag monitor for measuring the ground clearance, a weather station for measuring ambient weather conditions such as wind velocity, solar irradiation and ambient temperature near the line and a GSM based communication device for sending real time minutes data from all these devices to a central server. The central server will then analyse the received data through algorithms and equations and provide an accurate margin by which the ampacity of the line can be increased without violating the existing conditions of the line to meet the surplus demand, that too on an hourly basis. It can also provide forecasting upto 24 hours, by analyzing historical conditions of the line and ambient weather conditions. Intermittent renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, cannot be used to their full capacity, due to lack of transmission corridor in far flung and remote areas. This problem can be solved by using this system, which can help in increasing power transmission capacity during excess renewable energy generation and also during surplus demand, without adversely affecting the overhead conductor and contributing to a greener solution.
