Spyber Labs Private Limited is developing a transgenic silkworm platform to produce spider-grade silk fiber at industrial scale. Using recombinant DNA technology, we engineer Bombyx mori silkworms to express spider silk proteins through their natural silk glands — producing high performance fibers with target over 200 MJ/m³ toughness, 3× Kevlar by weight. The production pathway uses India's existing sericulture infrastructure. Target applications: defence-grade fiber (soft armor, ballistic panels) and medical textiles (sutures, scaffolds). Provisional patent on this production method was filed May 2, 2026 (Application No. 202641055937). No comparable Indian program exists.
