Indian Youth Café is a UN and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India awarded experiential startup project designed to bridge the pervasive offline disconnect among the youth. We started India’s first youth cafe called Urban Desi House in Chennai that supports the talent of many young artists, changemakers, creative workers and entrepreneurs. We have an omnichannel approach towards youth engagement which works through an interplay of media, technology, and local experiences to impart learning and enable positive community actions through affordable social spaces designed especially for young people. Our accredited model of youth engagement has led to enabling the most affordable spaces for young people in contemporary India to co-work in a community environment which has led to the generation of enormous social and skill support to many youth-led projects. Our surveys and research focusing on Indian Youth have yet again proven that demographic dividend brewing in India has brought forward many challenges that our economy faces including un/under-employment and lack of opportunities for people/communities that propel the future of the nation. We have been actively testing a youth café as a service ( YCAAS ) with triangular revenue model: Food and beverages, events and coworking; that offers support to young people in a non-stigmatising way; and has till date provided a forum for more than 57000+ young people to develop their social networks in Chennai, India. We do this by binding a loose bound and cross-collaborative community that enables free flow collaboration and impacts several people and generates employment and opportunities in abundance.
