In response to the clarion call of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India an EV Hub be it in technology, product manufacturing or sub assemblies to enable the world economy to move to electro mobility, we decided to set up ZAP Mobility . This was mainly to take up the manufacturing of electric buses and commercial vehicles which have the greatest footprint of green house gas emission. And what is most interesting is that in view of the Indian private EV industry to back off from Government’s purchase tender for 5000 EV buses, we are determined to break the nexus to help the Government to achieve it Zero Carbon Emissions Target.Hence Zap has decided to not only manufacture buses but also operate them on a pan India to help reduce carbon emissions.Today there is strong consumer resistance to EVs on more than one count. First, 'range uncertainty'. Second, lack of adequate EV charging infrastructure, Third, extremely long hours between 7 and 8 hours of EV charging, and lastly, the 'high cost of entry' with extremely high EV prices viz-a-viz the fossil fuel vehicles. And mind you this is despite the fact that the Government has already doled out thousands of crores in subsidies to induce the EV demand!ZAP Mobility Pvt Ltd., is now embarking on a new venture focused to promote EV adoption with suitable up gradation of existing skills and capabilities available with our partners in Bus Body fabrication. ZAP Mobility aims to expand its footprint across the country with latest technological advancements in Electric Commercial vehicles.ZAP Mobility will lead the EV adoption initiatives in the Luxury Interstate bus segment with in-house chassis manufacturing and Bus body fabrication. The company shall further expand its scope by expanding to other CV segments leading the EV adoption in Midi & Intercity buses and LCV & ICV trucks suitable and widely accepted for mid & last mile application in Logistics. MANUFACTURING ARMThe Company shall initially start the prototyping and Homologation activity from 2 existing plants and targets to complete this activity in 12 months.This shall be followed by a pilot production cum Operations module for another 6 months with a pilot batch of 25 buses on 2 selected routes. The pilot shall ensure conformity, efficiency, reliability, proving and course correcting the areas requiring attention in both manufacturing and operations before bulk production commences by end of 18 months.The proto and pilot program shall be simultaneously followed up with setting up new plant preferably at Noida in UP. The plant shall ramp up the production capacity from current 100 buses per month to 200 per month. OPERATIONS ARMThe Company shall supplement its strength with a strong revenue oriented subsidiary which shall operate 1000 Interstate luxury buses across various states where Buses are the preferred and predominant choice of interstate & intercity commuting.The Operations are envisaged to start with 2 routes during pilot phase with 25 buses and expand to 50 routes with a fleet size of 1000 buses over next 18 months. While the Parent company shall focus on manufacturing with a target margin of 10% in initial 2 years, the Operations subsidiary shall target primarily on Operations and revenue generation. The company shall also have the scope and responsibility of maintaining and upkeep of buses besides compliance of operational parameters and regulations.The Operating arm is broadly seen as the most profit generating function. The Luxury Interstate bus segment is one of the most profitable venture in Bus segment and the induction of EVs in this application is expected to boost the bottom line substantially with an additional saving of minimum Rs 20 per km in energy over fuel costs. This entails to an additional savings of Rs 30 lakhs per annum per bus with an average running of 500 kms per day / 25 days a month.The Operating arm shall invest and develop in listed key modules in Annexure A which are a must for successful and organized Operations.
