Welfund is a sustainable-asset financing platform in India with primary focus on Rooftop Solar and EV Infra & Battery Storage segments as well. The platform acts as a digital marketplace to enable digital solar loans and thus improving solar adoption rate. It connects financial institutions with solar customers. India is aiming for 450GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030, with solar accounting for the lion's share of > 60% (280GW). Currently in India, Rooftop Solar (Residential and Small Commercial) segment has ~400GW untapped potential of which we targeted to achieve 10% (40GW) by 2022. But the actual achievement was 6.64GW i.e., 1.65% of market available. As per industry experts, lack of access to financing is the major reason for slow solar adoption rate. Despite being a Priority Lending Sector, solar loans haven’t taken off. There are no players in Loan Origination & Asset/Loan Aggregation in the solar financing value chain. Therefore, Welfund wants to create a differentiated loan product where the solar loans will be backed by 1. A Guaranteed Generation (PLF) on the performance of the plant for the tenure of the solar loan by Welfund 2. We will create India’s first solar secondary marketplace enabling a buy-back of the asset in the event of NPA of a loan 3. We will create a Debt Reserve for the loan from the Annual Maintenance Contract
