Villages are India’s backbone. Even though nearly 70% of the country’s population resides in rural areas and contributes around 46% to its net domestic product, Indian villages are trailing its cities economically. We, at Greener Rural Initiatives Private Limited (GRINS) firmly believe that sustainable development is possible only when this gap is bridged and rural and urban India grow together. We have strong faith in the power of the Bharat-India connect and confident that significant barriers have been broken now through reliable connectivity in both physical and digital infrastructure. It is our conviction that sustainable development can be best achieved by merging the social mission of a non profit with the market driven, profit maximising approach of a business; by connecting natural produce and products to markets through community engagement inspired by the ‘People, Planet Profit’ model of John Elkingston. Founders conceptualized this intention for supporting Startups in the social sector space with suitable interventions through a hybrid structure of a Not for Profits and a Private Limited Company in a manner that efficiently nurtures profit making under the Triple Bottom Line approach of Natural Produce & Products, Communities & Markets. The improvement over 'available' peer services is the nature of delivery and risk/reward dynamic. We are investing capital and management hours with early stage startups and walking the talk by expecting to rewarded financially only through success of the enterprise. We are also not linking our takeaway from valuation on exit but as share of present earnings.
