Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) have become an indispensable part of everyone’s life. EEE footprints are everywhere, beginning from household to businesses to Hospitals, Educational Institutes, Transport, Security, Space etc. and is getting further expanded to Internet of Things (IOT) like “Smart Homes” and “Smart Cities”. COVID-19 pandemic has added to the growth of EEE sector. Work from home, Online education, retail and entertainment have become part and parcel of life. Another upcoming challenge is world’s navigation towards Electric vehicles, mounting additional pressure to recycle Lithium-Ion batteries. If we look at the facts, India – 1. Is the 3rd largest e-waste producer after China and USA 2. Generates 3.2 million tons* of e-waste annually and is expected to grow exponentially, >90% of which is dumped directly or handled by unorganized sector. Problem with unorganized recycling is, it is not environment friendly and put worker’s life at risk. It poses threat to data security and environment. We are also losing opportunity to recover metals in the purest form which could reduce import dependency and save our Ore reserves for future generation. Such interlinked challenges can be solved by Organized, Authorized and Responsible recycling, carried out currently by only few in India. MetaOre is committed to solve all above interlinked challenges. We “MetaOre Recycler” established in Jan 2021 and Registered under MSME have motto of “e-waste free India”. We aim to pioneer in responsible e-waste recycling, that is Green and environment friendly. The factory is being set up near Kolkata, West Bengal. For recycling, MetaOre is setting up Eastern India’s 1st “Zero Waste” concept e-waste recycling plant to recycle Printed Circuit Boards and Lithium-Ion batteries. Our Zero waste, State of Art Novel Technology is provided by “CSIR-NML”, Government of India premium research institute. The MOU was signed between MetaOre and CSIR-NML on 5th March 2021 for the technology transfer. This technology works in a closed loop process and will contribute towards Circular economy by redefining e-waste as a resource and not waste. In addition to recycling, the company offers integrated e-waste management solutions, from Collection by reverse logistics, Segregation, Dismantling and Refurbishment. We at MetaOre will effectively close loop between the end-of-life and manufacturing phases of EEE in an environmentally & economically sustainable manner.
