Cardiovascular disease (CVD), COPD, and type 2 diabetes (T2D) account for the greatest share of early death in India with ~70% of total mortality that would result in a projected economic loss of ~US$ 4.58 trillion (2012-2030, WHO). The only solution that exists to treat the disease is to send the patient to hospital when there is an acute emergency! However, this is a reactive treatment with practically no use because it fails to minimize the death risk associated with these diseases. Researchers at Stanford university showed “wearables” could play an important role in the early detection of serious medical conditions [Ref. PLoS Biol. 2017 Jan 12; 15(1): e2001402]. In this spirit, we provide a wearable jacket with embroidered bio-sensors, and IoT that (a) uses private blockchain platform to access patient’s physiological data, (b) uses machine learning to track the potential risks of the diseases as well as onset of medical emergencies in real time, and (c) connects patients to nearby medical providers 24x7 during emergency. WHO estimated a 2% annual reduction in national-level chronic disease deaths rates would result in an economic gain of USD 15 billion for India over the next 10 years. Our wearable solution with on-demand care is ideal to detect these diseases early, and can complement independent living to existing ~76 million cardiac patients (2015), reduce disability ~1.7 million/year, and hospital readmission by an estimated 70% only in India.
